So, Evan tried playing soccer when he first turned three. He played with a soccer league, and I think the best part for him was wrestling in the grass with his friend Nathaniel. He would wrestle, pick a little grass, and not pay much attention to the game. When we did encourage him to get into the game, he had no desire to run after the ball in the crowd of people or run the risk of having the ball taken from him.
However, when it came time to pick a sport this spring we gave him the choice of several sports, but because one of his best buddies in preschool played soccer, he picked soccer again. This friend played at an indoor soccer complex called Netsports where they teach classes have different ability groupings. The interesting thing about Netsports that they don't play any games in the first several age groups. They just focus on learning the skills in a fun game atmosphere, so I thought it could be right up Evan's alley.
So, Evan started in the Hoppers class. Ben really wanted to play, but he missed the age cut off for that class by about six weeks, so he will start this summer. Evan had his first class and just loved it. He was one of the older kids in the class and I think he really liked being bigger and faster than some of the kids in the class. He loved the games and his teachers and really did a good job. I still don't know if Evan will enjoy it when it actually comes time to play games, but we're sticking with it for now. Evan will do the Jackrabbits class in the second summer session and Benny will see how well he likes the Hoppers. Take a look at my little soccer star!
